We are delighted to announce our Silver Award in the coveted E-Learning Awards Best Learning Technologies Project.
The competition was phenomenal; in the Best Learning Technologies category we beat O2, Standard Life, AstraZeneca (leading global biopharmaceutical company) with a turnover of £100 billion, Godiva (globally worth £765 million) and TUI who have a turnover of £7.2 billion. This is what the panel of the Judges said: “The judges commended an excellent application of virtual reality technology, the implementation of the project and applauded time and cost savings as well as quality improvements delivered by the training.”
Vocational Virtual Reality (VVR) training has revolutionised the way in which students become fully qualified construction workers and is contributing to reducing the UK skills shortage. The judges loved this programme which is about people doing real things with great results. The ‘on the job’ aspect of the NVQ is supported by detailed simulated experiences that go above and beyond the assessment requirements. Within the virtual world students can plan out an installation, go to the wholesalers to purchase the required materials, and carry out the installation. Students can practise as many times as they need to in the safe environment of the virtual world. ERR says 98% of the students who achieved their qualification using this method secure employment within six weeks of qualifying.
One of the stand-out success stories of the E-Learning Awards 2015 this 2D and 3D virtual world simulation has a clear learning outcome – providing practice in order to complete trades qualifications. The concept of using a simulation based on an existing property to allow users to plan, exercise and apply both theory and skills in the building trade is a powerful approach. The ability to merge the theory and practice with real time feedback and support makes the simulation powerful, engaging and an excellent means of evaluation for both the users and their teachers. The use of 3D and the extension of the solution to a practical application as an estimation and a material procurement functionality makes this a brilliant down-to-earth application of simulation technology.
Back among the honours again ERR impressed the judges by the groundbreaking levels of innovation and technological advances made by this initiative. Combining the power of virtual reality training using a games platform with ERR’s construction industry knowledge is creating products that are revolutionising the way in which vocational training is delivered. The blended learning courses are designed to be flexible, accessible and engaging, necessary because students are often working full time, or have family commitments. The efforts made to blend the different elements of the learning are a great example to others.
Perhaps no surprise that ERR is a winner in this category given the awards picked up elsewhere. The company has a track record of an impressive innovative use of technology to improve vocational skills training which is being used in an equally impressive manner to revolutionise the way tradespeople become fully qualified; bridging a very real gap in the industry. The company is dedicated to producing high quality technology which provides the opportunity for students to become qualified to work in the construction industry. This is a company that provides training that the industry wants, the professional bodies require and the economy needs. Perhaps ERR’s greatest testimonial is the fact that 98% of the students who gained qualifications through ERR’s technology secure employment within six weeks of qualifying.
Another award for this ambitious attempt to bring 3D simulation – Vocational Virtual Reality (VVR) system – to the skills trade. The beauty of this product is two fold – the first is that it is being used to overcome a real challenge in bridging the skills gap within the trade industry. The second is the immersive learning experience it offers apprentices that go through the training. A bold programme, clearly having a real impact, ERR successfully demonstrated how is uses game- engine technology to make a very tangible difference to the learning journey of much needed apprentices.
